Hi, I’m Joyce A. Mabe,
As a professional resume writer who not long ago was in your shoes, I understand what you’re going through right now.
I had a long career as a writer, editor, and professional communicator (with an emphasis in public relations) in a variety of sectors including human resources, federal and state government, nonprofits, and education. I also earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling/school counseling.
Then, several years ago, I relocated from Utah to Colorado and had to begin searching for a job–the first time I had to look for a job in a long time.
Like you, it was taking a long time; a lot longer than I expected. I was feeling very frustrated and discouraged about not getting called for interviews. Also probably like you, I wasn’t sure what the problem was. Was it too much competition? Was it my resume? What was it?!
Out of pure frustration combined with stubborn determination, I decided I needed to figure out how to play the job search game to win. So I set out to learn all I could about best practices for resumes and job seeking, including all about keywords, the best format, how to effectively deal with the issues of ageism/age discrimination, etc.
The result of that learning was that I did end up getting an interview AND getting the job…but it also made me realize that I really loved and had a talent for writing resumes. So, I began working part-time as a professional resume writer for a nationally-recognized career services company.
Fast forward to today…I’m now a full-time professional resume writer with my own company and I’m honored to help job seekers living all over the United States from my home office in Colorado.
